Children on the Reservation have little to nothing to do. Many youth resort to alcohol and drugs and criminal activity because there simply are no activities or facilities to occupy their time. We want to build a Youth Recreation Center in every community on the Reservation and rebuild our playgrounds and basketball courts.
The sad truth is that many of our youth have unsafe homes where violence, drugs, alcohol and other negative environment issues are at play. We want to build Youth Safe Houses where a young person can go without fear of retribution. A place where they can safely go until their situation at home can be addressed.
Addiction has long plagued the people of Native America, and with the coming of Methamphetamine, Opiates, Fentanyl and Heroin, its only gotten worse. We want to build an inpatient treatment center to address this issue, but partner it with AFTERCARE service so the people seeking help don't simply get thrown back into the same lifestyle upon completion. We want to employ Job Training, Family Counseling and Job Placement, as well as transitional housing assistance.
Our current justice system lacks a very fundamental correctional aspect. That is MENTAL and BEHAVIORAL HEALTH. We have Domestic Abusers, Child Neglectors, Child Abusers, that are incarcerated, and returned back to the same environment. And then the cycle repeats. We want to bring in Family Counseling services to help people learn what it is they are doing wrong, so the CYCLE CAN STOP.
For the many homeless community members on the Reservation, it can seem hopeless. We want to bring people together, learn their goals and dreams, and find a plan of action to help get them the treatment they need, the skills they need, and a place in this community they can be proud of. We want not only to help them get back on their feet, find a place to live, but also help them stay that way and be a self sufficient contributing member of this community.
Native American Reservations face the highest High School Drop Out rates in the Nation. We want to stop and reverse that. We want to encourage and incentivize the education system to make young people WANT to stay in school and recognize the value of a proper education. Through Education Incentive Payments for good achievements, we hope we can help create even more future leaders. We want to create travel opportunities for students so they can experience life OFF the Rez, and see what opportunities are out there.
